The Last Day Diary

Our last full day of Camp for summer 2017 started the same as any other day; with the Polar Dip! A rainy morning made the polar dip extra chilly today, so it certainly woke us up. After a delicious breakfast of French toast sticks, we had our first Skills classes for the day.

In morning chapel, Mitch Geiken taught us about the importance of prayer and how to incorporate prayer into our everyday lives in practical ways. Then, we had lunch and our last Skills classes of the summer. We have have a blast teaching and learning in Skills this year!

Next, we had some Toes-up Time before our afternoon game. Today, the game was the Mascot challenge! Campers dressed up their counselors as a cabin mascot using only the things that they had in their cabins already. There were a lot of fun characters made and a lot of laughter was had!

After the game it was FREE TIME! Today during Free Time, the weather was rainy, but it didn’t stop us from having a blast. We swam, did crafts, slid in the mud, ran through puddles, rode the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, and played a fun round of Mafia. It was a great last Free Time of the summer.

After a wonderful dinner of pizza, we had our final even chapel with our speaker Nate Miller. We have learned a lot from Nate this week and we are thankful for all the truths that he has brought us this week. Now, we are having our last Canteen time before our last campfire of the summer! It is still raining, so we’re going to have our campfire inside. We are still going to have a blast though!

We are sad to be done with our last full day of Camp for the summer, but we are also so thankful for how wonderful this week was. Tune in tomorrow for the final closing rally!

Cool Breezes, Competition, and a Crazy Medley!

Wednesday at Camp was filled with laughter and friendly competition, but the day began  with a chilly dip in the lake, as always. The weather was cool all day, so we had a true Polar Dip this morning. After a wonderful breakfast of French Toast, we had more time to spend alone with God, followed by Clinics and Seminars. Clinics offered our first dose of friendly competition today as campers played volleyball and wiffleball.

Next, we had morning chapel. Today, the girls talked about Sin, Shame, and Forgiveness, and the guys talked about Communication. We have learned a lot in morning chapel so far this week, and the conversations that are coming from this time have been rich. After chapel, we had lunch and another fun mail-call. Then it was Free Time!

Today, Free Time featured a lot of games, so it was our next dose of friendly competition. Because the weather was chilly, most people spent this time in the hub playing Octoball, Nine Square, and Four Square. Others did crafts, played card games, and played Swat (a fun ball game we play inside). The competition was strong today on the paintball course too!

As Free Time ended, we enjoyed a delicious dinner of spaghetti and meatballs, then we headed into evening chapel. Tonight, Kirsten talked about what discipline looks like in Scripture. She also talked about what it looks like for us to accept discipline and the ways that she has experienced discipline in her own life. Her stories are captivating and saturated with truth.

Our evening has also offered us more chances for fun competition; we just had our final volleyball game of the last volleyball tournament for the summer, and now we are getting ready to play a game called the Crazy Medley, which is a bunch of Camp games combined into one choice, fun mess. It will be a blast! Tune in tomorrow for everyone’s favorite junior high tradition: SLEEP IN DAY!

What a Wednesday!

The last full day of Super Kids 3 started once again with a refreshing Polar Dip in the lake, followed by flag raising and learning another memory verse! Today, we learned 2 Timothy 1:7. After a tasty breakfast of French toast sticks, we had our first Skills classes for the day. We have had a blast learning about outdoor survival, wiffleball, fishing, canoeing, projectiles, and so much more this week.

Next, we had morning chapel. Today, Rich Olson taught us about the value of prayer and some practical ways to incorporate prayer into our daily lives. We learned a lot! Then, after lunch, we had our final Skills classes.

After Toes-Up Time, we were ready for everyone’s favorite game of the week: the Staff Hunt! All of our staff hid all over Camp, and if the campers found and tagged a staff member, they got to push them in the lake!

Free Time followed the big game. Today, Free Time featured swimming, boating, crafts, a game of Mafia, and of course, more rides down the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline! After Free Time we had our last cabin adventure time, then evening chapel.

Tonight in chapel, our speaker Frank Lanier is wrapping up his message for the week. We have had a great time with Frank, and we are thankful for all of the unique ideas and truths about God and the world that he has been able to teach us this week. After chapel, we will enjoy some Canteen time and get ready for our traditional campfire out at Bass Point!

Slipping and Sliding into a Great Day

Wednesday of Senior High Week started with a relaxed morning. We enjoyed the Polar Dip and eating a delicious breakfast at the appropriate time of day. After breakfast, we had time to spend alone with God, then we had morning chapel. The men and women split up for chapel once again; today the women talked about Loving Your Neighbor and the men talked about Purity. Morning chapels are always followed by a time of great discussion.

After chapel, it was time for the traditional Senior High Volleyball Tournament! Unlike any other week, the Senior High tournament is filled with crazy music and dance parties, a slip & slide, yard games, and a picnic lunch. Everyone had a blast at the volleyball tournament this year, and a lot of us have the sunburn to prove it!

The Volleyball Tournament was followed by Mail Call, and then Free Time. Today, Free Time featured swimming, boating, rides down the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, a game of Ultimate Frisbee, and crafts. The surprise craft-of-the-day today was making handmade soap and bath bombs!

Dinner tonight was Minnesota themed; we dressed in our best flannels and overalls, and we ate hot dish, jello salad, chicken wild rice casserole, biscuits, and cupcakes decorated to look like little camp fires. Everything was delicious! After dinner we had evening chapel with our speaker Nate Miller. He brought us more ideas to think about how we can live out being a part of God’s team and “living a life that matters.”

After chapel, we played another night game! For tonight’s game, cabins are running all around Camp to complete tasks and unlock video clues to find out where our friend Samuel was taken; he was kidnapped and we have to find him! After the game, we’re off to bed. We’re ready to enjoy the best part of the week tomorrow morning–it’s SLEEP IN DAY! Tune in tomorrow for the last full day of Senior High Camp!

It’s All About the Victory

Our last full day of Camp this week started with beautiful weather and our final Polar Dip. After several people took a refreshing dip in the lake, we had a wonderful breakfast of French toast sticks, and then we had our first skills class of the day.

Skills brought us some little victories today as we caught fish, shot targets, conquered the waves in canoes, and won games of Octoball. After skills we had morning chapel, where Laura Orpen as “The Rocket” taught us about the importance of working together and uplifting the people around us.

After lunch and our second Skills classes for the day, the campers had a chance for another small victory as they ran around Camp to find the staff members that were hiding. The Staff Hunt is always a favorite game. After the game, we enjoyed our final Free Time!

Free Time was also saturated with little victories today; we conquered our fears on the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, displayed our wit in a game of Mafia, and learned new skills in the craft room.

Our last lesson in victory came in chapel tonight when Wendy taught us about the last couple “bases” of the Christian faith. She focused on discipleship and the rewards of Heaven that await when we “finish the race.” We are thankful for Wendy and all that she has taught us this week.

Now, we are enjoying some Canteen time before our campfire at Bass Point tonight. We’re excited for what the rest of the night holds for us.

A Wonderful Wednesday

Our wonderful Wednesday morning here at Camp was fun and relaxing. It started once again with a refreshing Polar Dip to wake up. Then, after a tasty breakfast of waffles, we had more time to spend alone with God to pray and read our Bibles. Quiet time was once again followed by clinics and seminars, then morning chapel. Today, the girls talked about Sin, Shame, and Forgiveness, and the guys talked about Communication.

After lunch and mail call, it was Free Time once again! Today, Free Time featured paintball, swimming, crafts, and a game of dodgeball.

After a fun dinner of spaghetti and meatballs (and cheesecake!), we headed up to Camp’s North 40 field for our traditional volleyball tournament. There was fun competition, good sportsmanship, loud music to dance to, and a ton of games happening. Everyone had a lot of fun!

In evening chapel tonight, Nate Temp talked about what it looks like to play on “God’s team.” He talked about 2 Corinthians chapter 12 and humility. We are looking forward to a lot of good conversations about it in our cabins tonight.

Tomorrow morning is sleep-in-day before the last full day of this week. We are excited for the extra hour of sleep before another day of crazy fun!

The End of an Adventure

We are sad to see all the Adventurers leave this afternoon! After another great Polar Dip and delicious breakfast, the campers had one final cabin adventure together before the Closing Rally.

AAD_0063

We watched a fun video with highlights from the week, prizes were handed out, Bobber Bill gave us a summary of what he talked about all week, and we celebrated the end of the week once again with pies flying into the faces of our beloved staff (our victims today were Erin, Ben, and Jackson – they will smell like whipped cream for days!). We also celebrated the graduation of our first group of LITs (Leaders in Training) for the summer. They did a great job and they have learned a lot over the past three weeks.

We are thankful for all of the kids that came to Camp this week, and we are hoping to see all of them again next year.

Thank you God for a really great adventure!

Waffle Wednesday!

Wednesday morning of Junior High 1 started with the Polar Dip and a delicious breakfast of waffles! After breakfast, the campers once again had time to spend alone with God to read their Bibles, memorize verses, and pray.

After our morning clinics and seminars, we split up for chapel. Today, the guys talked about Communication and the girls talked about Sin, Shame, and Forgiveness.

After lunch and a fun mail call, we had free time! Today, free time featured swimming, boating, crafts, paintball, a round of Two Rooms and a Boom (a fun strategy game), and even some campers sleeping on the playground (good thing tomorrow is sleep-in day)!

In chapel tonight, our speaker Phil Campbell is talking about using the gifts that God gave us to honor Him, as well as the discipline it takes to perfect a God-given talent. He is focusing on Hebrews chapter 12.

After chapel, we will have our championship volleyball game between the winners of yesterday’s tournament. Good luck Germany and Denmark!!! Later tonight, we are playing a new game; the campers will be running all around Camp collecting tickets to win points for their team.

We are looking forward to a fun evening and we are excited for all of the questions, conversations, and fun that tomorrow will bring with our last full day of Camp.
