Thank You God for a Really Great Summer!

Our final day of Camp for summer 2017 is over. We are so thankful for all of the fun and learning that happened this summer, and we are grateful for all of the opportunities to grow close to God that this summer presented.

Our closing rally today featured prizes for the Polar Dip and fishing, as well as a video show of the week, a final message from our speaker Nate Miller, and a love offering for Source of Life Camp in Ukraine. We had the biggest offering of the summer today, and we are already amazed at all of the ways that God is going to use those gifts to grow his Kingdom.

It has been an amazing summer, and we are so excited for what God is going to do at Camp Lebanon this fall and next summer. THANK YOU GOD FOR A REALLY GREAT SUMMER!

The Last Day Diary

Our last full day of Camp for summer 2017 started the same as any other day; with the Polar Dip! A rainy morning made the polar dip extra chilly today, so it certainly woke us up. After a delicious breakfast of French toast sticks, we had our first Skills classes for the day.

In morning chapel, Mitch Geiken taught us about the importance of prayer and how to incorporate prayer into our everyday lives in practical ways. Then, we had lunch and our last Skills classes of the summer. We have have a blast teaching and learning in Skills this year!

Next, we had some Toes-up Time before our afternoon game. Today, the game was the Mascot challenge! Campers dressed up their counselors as a cabin mascot using only the things that they had in their cabins already. There were a lot of fun characters made and a lot of laughter was had!

After the game it was FREE TIME! Today during Free Time, the weather was rainy, but it didn’t stop us from having a blast. We swam, did crafts, slid in the mud, ran through puddles, rode the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, and played a fun round of Mafia. It was a great last Free Time of the summer.

After a wonderful dinner of pizza, we had our final even chapel with our speaker Nate Miller. We have learned a lot from Nate this week and we are thankful for all the truths that he has brought us this week. Now, we are having our last Canteen time before our last campfire of the summer! It is still raining, so we’re going to have our campfire inside. We are still going to have a blast though!

We are sad to be done with our last full day of Camp for the summer, but we are also so thankful for how wonderful this week was. Tune in tomorrow for the final closing rally!

The Tuesday Chronicles

Tuesday at Camp was filled with more new and exciting ways to get to know each other and to learn. Once again, our day started with the Polar Dip! A thick blanket of fog over the lake this morning added an extra layer of excitement to jumping in. Then, everyone dried off and put on some layers for the chilly morning! We had a delicious breakfast, then we had our first Skills classes for the day.

Next, we had morning chapel where Laura Orpen as “The Rocket” taught us about the importance of teamwork and how to live out good teamwork in our daily lives. We learned a lot from her this morning! Then, we had a tasty lunch of walking tacos, and our next Skills classes.

After Skills, we had a bit of rest time before our big game for the day. Today, the game was everyone’s favorite: the Staff Hunt! Our staff hid all over Camp, and if a camper found them, they got to push that staff member in the lake! As the Staff Hunt ended and our soggy staff left the lake, it was time for Free Time.

Today, Free Time featured swimming, tie-dye, chalk drawing, boating, and the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline. We had a great day enjoying the beautiful weather! After Free Time, we had a picnic dinner of burgers, salad, and cookies before everyone’s next favorite event: the carnival!

The carnival featured a lot of fun games, face paint, popcorn and cotton candy, and even a slip & slide! The carnival is a highlight of the week for many campers, and it’s a great chance to win cabin points by playing games. Now, the campers are in evening chapel with our speaker Nate Miller. Tonight, Nate is talking about discipleship and what it looks like to encourage each other to follow Christ! Tune in for more fun tomorrow!

A Merry Monday Tale

The last Monday of summer Camp started off as another other Monday would; with a chilly dip in Cedar Lake to wake up! After a delicious breakfast of pancakes and sausage, we went into our first Skills classes of the week! Skills are a time that campers learn how to do specific things at Camp, like canoeing, fishing, archery, and games. AAB_0011 copy.jpg

After Skills, we had morning chapel with Bill Abeler. Today, Bill talked about the Bible, the importance of using it well, and about how to find specific Bible verses in it. We learned a lot! After Chapel, we had our second Skills classes for the day. Next, we had some Toes-up Time to rest before our afternoon games!

We played a bunch of games on Camp’s lower ball field this afternoon. Each cabin started at one game and rotated throughout all of them. Now we know how to play a bunch of fun games to fill up time in between events at Camp, or to play during Free Time!

Free Time followed our afternoon games. Today, campers took the swim test, ate Canteen treats, played a round of Run & Jump, enjoyed the new wiffleball stadium, made crafts, and rode the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline! We had a blast this afternoon.

After dinner, we played a crazy game of Capture the Flag 2.0. There was a lot of running and laughter and strategizing! Capture the Flag has been a favorite game this summer for campers and staff.

When the game was over, we enjoyed some Canteen time and even a little bit of evening swim time as the day cooled off. Now, the campers are in chapel listening to our speaker Nate Miller talk about how the steps to following God are similar to playing baseball; you’ve got to get to first base! We are tired after a fun day, but we are so excited to start a new day tomorrow.

The Sunday Story: Super Duper Kids 4!

The last week of the summer is already off to a great start. This group of campers is full of energy and ready to have fun! Even though our week is starting off with rain, we are embracing the weather and having a great time.

We started the week with a “picnic” inside; we had hotdogs, veggies, and brownies for dinner. Next, we talked about Camp’s rules so we can make sure everyone has a safe week. The rain is coming down steadily now as we head back into the Chalet for evening chapel. Our speaker this week is Nate Miller; we had a great time with Nate during Senior High camp earlier this summer, and we are thrilled to have him back to speak to the younger campers this week.

Later tonight, we will have our final Staff Variety Show of the summer. It will be a great show! We’re anticipating a lot of laughter before we send these kids off to bed tonight. Tune in tomorrow for the first full day of Super Kids 4!

Only one more week?

We can’t believe it’s our last week of the summer, but we’re going to end on a high note! We’ve had a lot of fun so far during Super Kids 4 – here’s what we did on Sunday and Monday…

All of us on summer staff were pumped and ready to dive into our last week when campers arrived on Sunday! After the kids checked in, they had the chance to take care of some things like the swim test, camp tour, and settling into cabins. We also had some dinner and heard about the rules for the week.

Next up was chapel! We sang some great songs and met our speaker for the week, Nate! Nate talked about the part of the Bible where Jesus talked about being “born again” and how it’s not a literal rebirth. Throughout the rest of the week, he’ll be talking about our quest for Truth!

After chapel was canteen (yay!) and the staff variety show! We went all out for our last performance of the summer, and by the end of the show, the stage was covered in water and pie – the sign of a classic variety show!

Monday was our first full-day experience this week, and it was awesome! It started out at 7:40 for the Polar Dip (a chance for an early morning dip in the lake), followed by flag raising and breakfast! When we were done eating, we squished together at the Steps of Faith for the all-camp picture. (After several minutes of silliness, we finally managed to get a good one.)

Our morning was filled up by skills time. Throughout the week, our cabin groups will rotate through six different skills: Outdoor Survival 1 (fires and forts), Outdoor Survival 2 (plants and orienteering), Canoeing, Archery, Space Adventure (where we learn more about stuff related to our space theme), and Team-Building. Our two sessions a day are split up by morning chapel. Yesterday, counselor Kenn talked about the Bible and gave us tips for finding things more easily using the Table of Contents and verse references.

We really worked up an appetite for lunch, but then we definitely needed a nap during Toes Up time… which recharged our energy for the Staff Hunt! After we pushed almost every staff member in the lake, we went straight into free time! There were so many activity options – swimming, boating, crafts, octoball, and zip-line were just a few!

Before dinner, we saw another installment of the Adventures of Captain Kyper. This time, Captain Kyper and M4 rescued the planet Ahecknah from an infestation of giant space spiders!

Our evening was filled out by Free the Hostage (a more-complicated version of Capture the Flag where you have to find two staff members hidden on opposite ends of Camp), canteen, and chapel. Nate talked about searching for Truth in the wrong places and told the story of the woman at the well and how she was looking for life in things other than God.

It’s going to be an awesome week! Please pray that we can all stay safe, have fun, and learn more about God!
