Super Kids 2 – Day Five

Today is the last day of Super Kids 2!  Campers celebrated an amazing week with the epic Campfire Trek last night.  It was a beautiful night at the fire, singing songs, playing Gorilla Gets the Man, hearing more from Maryn, and shouting the Praise God yell across the lake.

Parents arrived for the Closing Rally, to watch the video of the week and slideshow.  Then we all headed out onto the Steps of Faith for the rally.  Campers who did the Polar Dip every day of the week got prizes, and we gave out prizes for the biggest fish caught.  Campers got to show off the actions to the different camp songs they had learned, including the Hippopotamus song.  We heard more from our speaker, Maryn, too!

Every Closing Rally, we take a Love Offering for another Camp somewhere in the world.  For years, Camp Lebanon has been supporting camps in Ukraine.  Campers and parents were so generous to give to these Camps, and all of their gifts go directly there.

Then it was time for pies to fly!  Campers say verses all week long, and if they can memorize them and recite them to their counselor, they get their name in the bucket to pie a staff member of their choice.

It has been an incredible week of Camp!  We are already missing these great 3-6 graders, and we can’t wait to hang out with them again next summer.

Super Kids 2 – Day Four

Last night, campers had a blast at our Carnival!  They played games, won tickets, ate popcorn, danced around to music, and even got to dunk their counselors in the dunk tank.  We had carpetball tournaments, different carnival games, and a slip ‘n’ slide too!  It was a ton of fun.

Then, at Chapel last night, Maryn told introduced campers to the Creator!  We learned all about him and the story of the Creator coming to our rescue.  We learned that, because of what happened at the Fall, we need a Savior.  Our Creator is Jesus, and He became human (“The Word became flesh”).  Jesus had power over Creation – He performed miracles of nature, time, and knowledge.  And our Creator, Jesus, died on the cross to save us.  God invites us to a new life in Jesus.  Maryn invited campers to talk with their counselors last night if they wanted to know more about accepting Christ.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Talk to your camper about how we need Jesus.  How did Adam and Even disobey God?  What did Jesus do to save us from our sin?  Discuss more with your camper about what a new life in Jesus looks like for them – how can they live for Jesus every day?

Today, campers woke up to a little bit of sunshine and a little bit of rain on and off.  But the weather cleared up quickly and we had a gorgeous day of warm, sunny skies.  Campers Polar Dipped, ate some breakfast, cleaned their cabins, and went to Morning Chapel.  They had some Free Time and Cabin Adventure time with their counselors before gathering for lunch.

Then it was time for Mail Call and Toes-Up, followed by FREE TIME!  Today, with only a few sessions of Laser Tag and no zipline, campers mostly spent the day in the water!  There were tons of swimmers on this incredibly hot day, and also lots of campers hanging out on the Hub, playing carpetball in the game room, and doing lots of fun crafts.

Then it was time for Flag Lowering and dinner!  Campers had pizza tonight, with salad and giant chocolate chip cookies for dessert.  Then it was time for Chapel.  Tonight, Maryn talked about how our Creator is still alive and busy!  When Jesus died, it wasn’t for good.  He rose again and, because of that, we are new creations!  God is continuing to hold the universe together, creating new life, and making new Christians.  And He is getting heaven ready for us.  As God’s kids, we can have peace (God is in control), help (God has the power!), and hope (God knows the future)!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper about how God is still creating.  What are some examples of how He is alive and busy in the universe?  Read Psalm 139.  What does it mean to be “wonderfully made?”  Read 2 Corinthians 5:17.  What does it mean to be a new creation?  Talk about ways you and your camper might need some peace, help, and hope.  Pray together about those things!

After Chapel, campers had some Free Time to get some Canteen treats, put on some long pants and tennis shoes, and to get ready for the Campfire Trek!  In a few minutes we will head out to the campfire at Bass Point to sing some fun campfire songs, play some games, and hear a story from Bobber Bill.  Tomorrow, camper parents arrive for the Closing Rally.  We can’t wait to share the rest of this week’s memories with you!

Super Kids 2 – Day Three

Hello from the third day of Super Kids 2!  It’s been a great day of summer camp already, but first we should catch up on what happened last night.  We played a super fun game called Capture the Flag, with some fun Camp Lebanon twists thrown in.  There was lots of water and staff in costumes involved.  The sun was setting beautifully over the lake, and campers got to play several rounds of the game before heading off to a restful sleep!

Campers were also keeping their eyes open for God’s fingerprint in Creation, and they found a teeny tiny frog!  What a marvelous creature!

This morning, campers woke up to another beautiful Camp day.  Some went to Polar Dip, everyone had a delicious breakfast, and everyone met in the Main Hall for Morning Chapel.  Then it was time for Free Time and Cabin Adventure.  A bunch of cabins grouped up today to have cabin adventures together, including a couple of cabins who played Wiffleball in Legends Field, and two more that played a game of Water Dodgeball.  And another cabin learned how to make chevron friendship bracelets from their counselor!

Then it was time for lunch, before we had another Mail Call skit.  Campers are still getting to know our summer-long characters, and had some fun watching their antics again this afternoon before heading off to Toes-Up Time.

After Toes-Up, we had a special big Camp game – the Staff Hunt!  Campers wait in the Main Hall while almost our entire summer staff find places to hide all over Camp.  Then campers are released to go find them.  If they find a staff member, they get to push them in the lake!  It’s a classic game, and the staff this week didn’t even mind, since it meant they got to cool off in the lake on a very hot day.  And, of course, campers got to go swimming at Free Time, which started as soon as the game was over.

There wasn’t only swimming during Free Time, but lots of crafts (which moved into the air conditioning of the Main Hall for the afternoon), zipline, laser tag, and fishing!

Tonight, campers are looking forward to a yummy dinner, followed by one of the biggest events of the week – the Carnival!  Campers will get to play games, win tickets, and dunk their counselors in a dunk tank.  We’ll post pictures and share more about the Carnival in tomorrow’s blog post, along with a recap of tonight’s Chapel!

We’ve had a great day so far with all these amazing Super Kids!  Can’t wait to spend even more time with them tomorrow.  To continue following the story this week, follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  Don’t forget to download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!

Super Kids 2 – Day Two

Last night in chapel, campers got to meet Maryn Feyereisen, our speaker for the week!  She introduced herself by telling them 7 things about her, including the thing that makes her say “Awesome!”  She gave campers the assignment this week to look for God’s fingerprint while they are at Camp.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Does your camper remember any fun facts about Maryn?  What are some of the things that they found around Camp that showed God’s fingerprints?

After chapel last night, campers had some Canteen time before the Staff Variety Show!  Counselors and other summer staff put on a fun show full of skits and jokes for the campers and it was so much fun.

This morning, after the wake-up bell, camper could go do the Polar Dip, jumping in the lake for a quick dip first thing in the morning before getting ready for the day and heading down to Flag Raising and breakfast.  After breakfast, campers went back to their cabins to finish Cabin Clean-Up.  Then we all met on the Steps of Faith for the All Camp photo!  Here’s the goofy shot:

IMG_4680.jpg

After Morning Chapel, campers had a little bit of Morning Free Time, followed by a Cabin Adventure.  For Cabin Adventures, campers go with their cabin groups and their counselor to do a cabin-only activity.  A few cabins joined together to play Wiffleball in Legends Stadium, or to play dodgeball on the tennis courts.  Other cabins played circle games, did chalk drawing, or played 9-square.  Another cabin made some crafts together!

Then it was time for lunch-line-up and Lunch time!  Today’s lunch meal was chicken tenders, mac & cheese, salad, and fruit for dessert.  After lunch, we had our first Skit time, where campers got to meet the summer-long characters and find out more about the ongoing story of the week.  Then they were sent off to their cabins to open up today’s mail and have some Toes-Up time – a chance to rest quietly in the cabin before Free Time fun!

Today, we had a fun game scheduled right before Free Time started, called the Pillowcase Scavenger Hunt.  Cabins packed up a single pillowcase with as many items as they could from their cabin, and brought it back to the Main Hall, where staff had a list of random items.  If they brought an item from the list, they got a point!

Then it was time for Free Time!  Swimming tests finished up, and then the beach opened for everyone to swim.  It was a super warm day, so the waterfront was busy for quite a while.  Zipline was open for a little bit, plus Laser Tag and the Craft Room.  Lots of kids beat the heat by playing carpetball in the Game Room, or drinking blue slushies in the shade.  At 4 o’clock, a bunch of kids ran down to the Lower Field for the Option, a game of Drip, Drip, SPLASH (a version of Duck, Duck, Gray Duck that involves a glass of cold water).  It was a super warm day, but everyone stayed hydrated and cool in their own ways!

Then it was dinner time!  First, we lowered the flag at the Steps of Faith and had a fun amphitheatric where some volunteer campers tried to move an Oreo from their forehead to their mouths, without using their hands.  It made for some pretty incredible facial expressions!

After dinner, we had our chapel session with Maryn.  Tonight, we talked about the Awesome Creation and lessons out of Genesis 1.  We learned that God is eternal, that He created out of nothing, that He created in 7 days, He created everything GOOD, and His highest creation was US (we are made in the image of God)!  Maryn said that this matters because life has purpose, and God has made us all special.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Read Genesis 1 with your camper.  Take some time to name some of the things in Creation that make you say “Wow!”  What does it mean to be made in the image of God?  What are some “wow” things about us, God’s highest creation?

Tonight after chapel we’ll have a little evening Free Time with the Canteen open, and then we will play a big game of Capture the Flag before bed.  It’s been a busy, full day!  We can’t wait for even more fun tomorrow!

We can’t wait to hang out with these Super Kids, and to get to know our Awesome Creator this week at summer camp! To continue following the story this week, follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  Don’t forget to download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!

Super Kids 2 – Day One

Here they come!  Super Kids 2 has begun.  Campers started to arrive at 4pm for Check-In – meeting their counselors, running down to the waterfront to take their Swim Tests, and playing on the Main Hub before supper time.  We are so excited to greet these fun-loving 3-6 graders!

Before dinner, campers meet the staff and find out how Flag Lowering works.  Then it is a dinner of sub sandwiches, chips, veggies, and a brownie.  Campers get to hear the rules for the week, and then go on a tour of Camp with their counselors.  Counselors will explain things to them like how the Canteen works, or what a Buddy Check is.

Then it is time for our first chapel, where we’ll be meeting our speaker, Maryn Feyereisen, and getting ready to learn more about our Awesome Creator this week!

Tonight, before bed, campers will get to see the Staff Variety Show – a series of hilarious skits that have been put together by our summer staff!  It’s a great way to kick off a great week, and to bond cabin groups together with shared laughter.

We can’t wait to hang out with these Super Kids, and to get to know our Awesome Creator this week at summer camp! To continue following the story this week, follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.  Don’t forget to download the Camp App for notifications and easy access to Summer Camp info!

It’s All About the Finish Line

We reached the finish line of this week of Camp, and although the last day of Camp is always full of sad goodbyes, we still rejoiced in the end of a great Super Kids 2.

Our last day of the week featured a video slideshow from the week, some of our favorite worship songs, a love offering for Source of Life Camp in Ukraine, and a final message from our speaker Wendy Gordy. She reminded us how important it is that we have finished the race and won the victory! We ended our closing rally today with PIES flying in the faces of some of our favorite staff members to celebrate memorizing Scripture throughout the week.

We are incredibly thankful for the 200+ kids that were here at Camp this week. We enjoyed great weather, a lot of laughter, and we are leaving feeling filled up by new friendships.

Thank you God for a really great week!

It’s All About the Victory

Our last full day of Camp this week started with beautiful weather and our final Polar Dip. After several people took a refreshing dip in the lake, we had a wonderful breakfast of French toast sticks, and then we had our first skills class of the day.

Skills brought us some little victories today as we caught fish, shot targets, conquered the waves in canoes, and won games of Octoball. After skills we had morning chapel, where Laura Orpen as “The Rocket” taught us about the importance of working together and uplifting the people around us.

After lunch and our second Skills classes for the day, the campers had a chance for another small victory as they ran around Camp to find the staff members that were hiding. The Staff Hunt is always a favorite game. After the game, we enjoyed our final Free Time!

Free Time was also saturated with little victories today; we conquered our fears on the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, displayed our wit in a game of Mafia, and learned new skills in the craft room.

Our last lesson in victory came in chapel tonight when Wendy taught us about the last couple “bases” of the Christian faith. She focused on discipleship and the rewards of Heaven that await when we “finish the race.” We are thankful for Wendy and all that she has taught us this week.

Now, we are enjoying some Canteen time before our campfire at Bass Point tonight. We’re excited for what the rest of the night holds for us.

It’s All About TEAMWORK!

Our second day of Camp for the week started once more with the Polar Dip. This morning the weather was warm and humid, so a lot of kids enjoyed jumping in the lake to start their day. After a favorite breakfast of scrambled eggs, ham, and donuts, we had morning chapel!

In chapel this morning, we sang some of our favorite Camp Lebanon action songs, played  a round of Gorilla-Gets-the-Man, and Rich taught us about the importance of prayer and some practical ways to practice praying.

After chapel we had skills classes once more. More campers learned how to fish, canoe, and play wiffleball on Camp’s new stadium! Then we had lunch (walking tacos!) and some time to rest before our afternoon game.

BBC_0281

We got our first lesson in teamwork this afternoon when we played Capture-the-Flag. There was a lot of running, laughter, and working together! After that, it was Free Time. Today, Free Time featured swimming, tie-dye, riding the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, and chalk drawing. We loved the beautiful weather today.

BBC_0321

Our next lesson in teamwork came with our carnival tonight. We worked together to play games and win tickets for cabin points! The carnival is a highlight of the week, and this one was a great way to bond with our cabins and counselors.

BBD_0013BBD_0104

Our last lesson in teamwork came with evening chapel when our speaker Wendy Gordy talked about the “second base” of living out the Christian faith. Community with other believers looks a lot like teamwork! We have learned a lot today; tune in tomorrow for our last full day of Super Kids 2!

It’s All About the Game Plan

The first full day of Camp for Super Kids 2 started with the Polar Dip this morning! We had over 150 kids jump into the lake to start their morning. After a delicious breakfast of pancakes and sausage, we had our first skills class for the day. Kids learned how to fish, canoe, shoot BB guns and bows, and play various Camp games. It was a lot of fun!

After skills, we had morning chapel where one of our counselors, Kayla Johnson, taught all of the kids the importance of using the Bible and how to find verses in it. After chapel and lunch, we had more skills classes.

AAC_0034

Then, we relaxed a bit with some Toes-up-Time and opening up our mail! This rest was much needed because we then played a bunch of group games before Free Time. Today during Free Time, kids took the swim test, rode the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, played Nukem, went boating and swimming, and did crafts. It was a hot day, so a lot of people enjoyed the water!

AAC_0336AAC_0249

AAC_0144After dinner and cabin time, we had a fashion show! The campers dressed their counselors up as “cabin mascots” using only the things that they could find in their cabins. There were some fun characters made! After the fashion show, we had Canteen time and evening chapel with our speaker Wendy.

Tonight, Wendy talked about how getting into the Christian faith is similar to running the bases in a game of baseball, and how we need to get to the first base before we can get anywhere else. We need to know the game plan in order to live out our faith! The first base is deciding to follow Jesus, and we’re going to learn about the other “bases” as the week goes on. Tune in tomorrow for all of the fun that Tuesday holds for us!

Super Kids Sunday

The opening day of Super Kids 2 is almost over. This group is loud, energetic, and ready to have fun!

Tonight after a picnic dinner and learning the Camp rules, we had our opening chapel with our speaker Wendy Gordy. She introduced herself and showed us pictures of her family, and she also gave us a brief outline of what she will be talking about for the rest of the week. She is a lot of fun to listen to, she interacts well with the campers, and we are all excited to hear more!

AAA_0034AAA_0012

Right now, we are enjoying some Canteen time before the Staff Variety Show. Then it’s off to bed to rest up for our first full day of fun tomorrow!
