Adventurers – Day Three

It’s the third day of Adventurers camp!  Campers got up this morning and, some of them, jumped into the chilly lake for the second Polar Dip of the week!  Campers who do it every morning this week will get a prize during the Closing Rally.

Then campers headed down to the Dining Hall for some breakfast, before going back to their cabins with their counselor to clean the cabin.  Then it was time for some morning Free-Time, which lets campers choose from a variety of supervised options, like fishing, playing Wiffleball, crafting, and going on nature hikes.

Morning Chapel – Bobber Bill talked about The Creator’s Gift!  We learned 3 Big Truths about the Creator (reading from John 1:1-18; 3:16-18).  We learned that the Creator’s name is Jesus, and that the Creator became Human (“The Word became flesh”), and the Creator came to SAVE us!  Bobber Bill told The Wall Story to illustrate how Jesus came to take our place on the Cross.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper to tell you the story about the Wall.  What kinds of animals were in the story?  What happened to the animals when the found the wall?  How did the story end?

For lunch today, campers had Tacos in a Boat, with fruit for dessert.  Then it was time to watch a skit, where the campers once more got to meet the summer characters.  They have been following the story of these characters all week.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper about the skits.  What were the summer characters’ names?  What were they trying to do?  Can your camper tell you the story and what happened with the characters during the whole week?

Then it was time to put their toes-up during “Toes-Up Time,” a chance for campers to go back to their cabins and open their mail, and take a little break.  This gives campers a little bit of rest and quiet time before all of the activity of afternoon Free Time!

There was a big game before Free Time started today, called “Pillowcase Scavenger Hunt.”  Each cabin took a pillowcase and filled it with random items from their cabin and brought it down to the chapel.  They had to match up items they brought with a secret list that the staff had created.  When their item matched an item on the staff list, the cabin got a point!

And then, FREE TIME!  It was a beautiful, sunny day today, and very warm.  Campers were encouraged to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen as they ran around and enjoyed the wonderful weather.  The waterfront was super busy, with tons of splashing and playing in the sand, on the slide, and on the watermat.

There were also lots of campers on the fishing docks (the fish have sure been biting this week!), trying to catch the biggest fish they can to put up on the Fishing Tournament poster.  We are so thankful to have so many volunteers helping out at the fishing docks, helping campers bait their hooks, take fish off of hooks, and measure fish for the tournament.

2019Adv_534.jpg

Then it was time for PIZZA DINNER, followed by Chapel!  Bobber Bill told us about how the Creator is STILL creating.  He is holding the universe together, He is creating new life, and He is making new creations! (2 Corinthians 5:17).  He is also getting Heaven ready for us (John 14:1-4).  Campers learned that, since God is the Awesome Creator, we can know that God can always be trusted, God loves life (so should we!), and God fixes broken lives.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Talk to your camper about being a new creation.  What does it mean to be made new?  How is Jesus making us new every day?  Then talk about how God can be trusted, because He created us.  What is something that you and your camper can pray about and trust Jesus for together?

The biggest even of our Tuesday evening was the Campfire Trek!  We took a long hike in the gorgeous sunset out to Bass Point, where the staff had built a campfire.  We sang some of our favorite songs from the week, played another round of Gorilla Gets the Man, and heard Bobber Bill tell another story!  Then we went on a Lion Hunt!

It was a great day – but we can’t wait to start again tomorrow!  Parents arrive to pick their campers up, and these kids are so excited to tell all about the amazing week they have had.  Praise God!

Adventurers – Day Two

Hello from Day Two of Adventurers summer camp!  Campers woke up early this morning for Polar Dip and a yummy breakfast of French Toast sticks, sausage, fruit, and oatmeal!  Then it was off to clean up their cabins before the big, all camp photo!  Everyone gathered on the Steps of Faith to have their picture taken.  Check out the “goofy” version below!

Then it was time for some fun options before Chapel, including BB guns, Puddle Jumping (it was a little bit of a rainy morning), Fishing, and Crafts!  At Chapel this morning, we learned about the Awesome Creation.  Bobber Bill told us about the book of Genesis, and about how God created everything out of nothing!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper to tell you what they learned about the Creation story!  How many days did it take God to create the universe?  What did He say about His Creation when He was finished?

After Chapel, campers took a trek up to the North 40 Field for some fun relay games with their cabin groups!  The games usually involved adding people to the hula hoop as cabins ran around the bucket in the middle.

Lunch was chicken fingers, mac & cheese, salad, and fruit for dessert.  Campers also got to see a fun skit before going to their cabins to get their mail and have some rest time, which we call “Toes-Up Time.”  Campers needed to get some rest and relaxation before the BIG GAME of the day – the (drum roll, please) Staff Hunt!

For the Staff Hunt, campers get to play a massive game of hide and seek with the summer staff, but with a fun twist – the staff member they find gets pushed in the lake!  Staff found great hiding places all over Camp, and campers got to run around hunting for them.  The line of campers who had caught staff was longer than it has ever been, stretching all the way in front of the Chalet!

Then it was Free Time!  Which, for most campers, meant two things: Swim Time and Fishing Time!  There were also lots of campers playing games on the Hub or making really fun art projects in the Craft Room.  Free Time is also a fun time to hang out with their counselor and cabin groups.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Campers spent a lot of time in or near the water today!  Ask your camper about their favorite waterfront activity.  Did they go fishing?  Did they catch anything?  What about swimming – did they go down the slide?  Did they play on the watermat?  How many times do they think they jumped into the lake off of the dock?

The big event of today came after a delicious dinner of spaghetti and meatballs!  The Camp Carnival is held down on the Lower Field, in and around the Wiffleball Stadium.  Staff set up games and activities for campers to enjoy.  At some of them, campers can win tickets, which they can use to bring a staff member of their choice to the dunk tank!  There is also face painting, crazy hair, fun music to dance to, and a slip-n-slide!

Campers will have a little Canteen time this evening before Chapel.  Bobber Bill will talk more tonight about God’s Creation, but in particular about The Creator’s Book.  Campers were encouraged to bring their Bibles to Chapel tonight, as they will be learning more about how God provided us with His instructions for how to live while we are in the world He created!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper about their Bible (maybe open it up together).  Remind yourselves about how many books of the Bible there are.  Can your camper find Genesis 1:1, the very first verse that we learned this week?  What does it mean when we say that the Bible is God’s love letter to His Creation?  How is it a “rescue plan to save His lost people?”

Good night from Camp Lebanon and these amazing Adventurers!  We can’t wait to share more with you about our day tomorrow!

Adventurers – Day One

Welcome welcome, Adventurer campers!  It’s one of our favorite weeks of the summer, seeing so many precious little ones arriving at Camp, many of them for their first summer camp experience.  We can’t wait to hang out with these 1st – 4th graders as we learn more about the Awesome Creator.

We started off with beautiful, sunny weather for Check-In Day.  Parents arrived with campers, checked them in at their cabin, and some headed down to the Waterfront for Swim Tests.  The playground, fishing docks, and Octoball court were already buzzing with activity already.

Then it was time for Flag Lowering, Staff Intros, and Dinner.  Campers met at the Steps of Faith to meet the Summer Staff and to learn about raising and lowering the flag each day.  Campers will have the chance to sign up with their cabin to help raise and lower the flag while they are here!

We had a delicious picnic dinner of sandwiches, veggies, chips, and brownies.  Campers went with their counselors to find a spot outside to sit as a cabin and get to know each other.  After dinner, it was time to run into the Main Hall chapel for a run down of the rules for the week.  Our Staff want to make sure everyone stays safe and has a great time, and these campers did a great job of listening before following their counselors back outside for a tour of Camp.  This is another opportunity for counselors to remind them of how things like the Canteen and Swimming Buddy Board work, and to help their campers remember where important landmarks are (including the Main Hall, the Steps of Faith, and their own cabin!).

Then it was Chapel time!  Campers got to spend their first Chapel with Bobber Bill!  He introduced himself to the campers and told them that we would be learning more about our Awesome Creator this week.  Their assignment was to find something that makes them say “Awesome!” and to look for God’s fingerprint at Camp.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Talk to your camper about the Awesome Creator!  What does the word “awesome” mean?  Can they remember any of the awesome things that they found in God’s Creation, things that showed God’s fingerprint?  What are some things in your own backyard that show God’s amazing creation?

After Chapel, campers got to enjoy some treats from the Canteen, and later tonight it will be time for the Staff Variety Show!  The Staff have put together some really funny skits to share with the campers, and they can’t wait to make them all laugh before it’s time to go to bed.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper to tell you about their favorite skits from the Variety Show.  Can they perform one for you?

Tomorrow is a full day of summer camp fun – the “funnest fun,” in fact!  We can’t wait to get started!

See You Soon, Adventurers!

Today, we said goodbye to our last youth campers – over 50 wonderful Adventurers who hung out with our summer staff for a few days at Camp.  We love spending time with this littles ones, and our Closing Rally time was a way to celebrate the fun we have had this week!

During the Closing Rally, we sing our favorite songs from the week, hand out prizes, say our memory verses, and hear a message from our speaker for the last time!

Sir William of Bobber had a final word for the campers this morning.  He recapped the week, and reminded campers to be expectant and excited for our heavenly home while serving the King as a Knight while we are here on our earthly home.  And true knights look like JESUS!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  A Message from Sir William of Bobber –

“God is King…and I am NOT!  Long live the King!!” That powerful statement became our rallying cry all week as we studied about the King. On Sunday, we met the King:  All Powerful, All Knowing, All Present, All Loving, and All Holy. Monday morning, we focused on the King’s Word, which contains both his edicts to follow and His love story to embrace. Monday evening featured ‘The Wall Story,’ an original allegory grounded on Romans 6:23 and John 3:16, both of which declare God’s rescue plan through His son. Tuesday morning was all about the King’s Knights and what they look like. For one, they look (and act) like Jesus (Colossians 3:12), and secondly, they obey the King (Two Great Commandments, Mark 12:30-31).  Tuesday evening saw us explore the King’s Castle (Heaven!) in John 14 and Revelation 21.  No more tears. No more death. No more pain. No more sin. Best of all – God is there and Jesus is preparing a place for us! Woo hoo! As Camp ended, we encouraged the kids to say both ‘YES!’ to the King and ‘NO!’ to wearing the crown that belongs only to him. Thanks for encouraging these kids in their journey of faith!”

We ended off the rally with a viewing of our slideshow and video of the week!  It was a great way to see the highlights of this week of Camp.  Campers will receive their All Camp photo in the mail, along with a flashdrive containing the highlight video.  High quality photos can be downloaded HERE.

Thank you, God, for a really great ADVENTURERS 2!!  And for a great summer!  We are so blessed to have spent time with these campers this week.  Praise the Lord for the work He has done this summer – and we look forward to seeing you next year!

A Mini Finale to a Mini Week!

Our last full day of summer youth camps was a blast!  So much happened, and these Adventurers knew just how to make the most of their time at Camp Lebanon.  Last night, they sat in on another chapel with Sir William of Bobber, who told them the amazing “Wall Story” and shared the story of salvation.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Have your camper tell you The Wall Story, then read Romans 6:23 and John 3:16.  Talk to your camper about the story and how God’s love story for His people is found in it.

Campers woke up this morning to the usual – Polar Dip, Breakfast, and Morning Chapel.  In todays morning chapel, Sir William talked about what it means to be a Knight of the King!

2018_Adventurers2_Tuesday19

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper about the King’s Two Great Commands.  What are the commands, and what are some ways that you and your camper can live them out?  (The commands are found in Mark 12:30-31).

After chapel, it was time for Mini Mini Mighty Mighty, a field game that has been played all summer up on the big field.  Because of the small size of our group (and the smaller legs of our campers), we had the game down on our lower field instead.

After the big game, we headed in for lunch (taco-in-a-bag), and then to Toes-Up Time.  Campers get to look at their mail and relax in their cabin for an hour.  The rest is certainly needed after the busy days they have been having!  And the down-time was helpful before the big game of dodgeball that came next!

Then came Free Time!

Today there were lots of campers on the waterfront and in the craft room.  Our craft of the day was making swords out of pool noodles!  It was a little chilly today, but the sun came out just in time to shine on our Waterfront.  Campers who passed their swim tests played on the watermat and the Rockit, while the rest of the campers did cannonballs and belly-flops off of the dock, or went down the shallow slide.  Goggles were particularly popular with the campers today – they loved going under water and seeing what they could see!

China cabin lowered the flag before dinner.  Their cabin did a great job of folding the flag, while the campers stood at attention.  Tonight’s dinner was the crowd favorite (and a great finale) – PIZZA!

After dinner was our final chapel of the week, and Sir William had something very exciting to share with campers at this session!  He told them all about “The King’s Castle” – Heaven!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper if they can remember any of the 6 Cool Things about Heaven!  Grab your Bibles and read Revelation 21:1-8 & John 14:1-6!

The big event on the last night of Camp is always the Campfire Trek!  Tonight, Bobber Bill blew his trumpet to start the hike out to Bass Point.

We had our last Gorilla Gets the Man round, and we celebrated our winner for the week!

DDD_0132

Before the Lion Hunt, Bobber Bill told the story of Tommy and his boat.  The campers listened with great attention as he told the story.

DDD_0154

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper to retell the story of Tommy and his boat.  What did he name is boat?  What happened to the boat after he built it?  What did it mean when Tommy said that the boat was “twice mine?”  What does it mean that we are “twice mine” to God?

Tomorrow is the final day!  We will celebrate an amazing week, give out prizes, sing some songs, and thank God for a really wonderful week!  Until then, sleep well!

Pancakes, Polar Dip, and Popcorn!

Happy Monday!  Our Adventurers were ready to go this morning for a chilly Polar Dip and a yummy pancake breakfast.  After eating, campers went back to their cabins to help their counselors with tidying the cabin.  Our nurses this week walk around in the morning to do cabin inspections, and everyone wanted to try to get 5 stars!

Then it was time for the All Camp Picture!  We picked a new spot this week – in front of the Chalet building.  Campers will go home with a copy of the photo, but we will share the goofy picture with you here!

ddd_0292.jpg

We had some cabin time during the morning to play and enjoy the rain ending.  Then campers headed in for morning chapel with Sir William of Bobber!  Today, Sir William talked about The King’s Word – The Bible!  We learned lots of important facts about the Bible, including that it is God’s Love Story – a rescue plan to save His lost people.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Ask your camper what they learned about the Bible?  See if they can remember how many books there are in the Bible.  Do they remember how many human authors wrote the Bible?  Or how many errors it has (here’s a clue: there are zero!)? Take some time to look through some of the books of the Bible – maybe share your favorite Bible story with your camper!

After Chapel, campers played a game called “Staff Hunt.”  Staff went to hide all over Camp, and if a camper found them, they got to push them in the lake!

Then it was time for lunch (mini corn dogs, smile fries, salad, and fruit for dessert), Story Time with Tori, and Toes Up Time!  Campers took a little mid-day rest in their cabins before another game called Camp Lebanon Auction.  Campers went back to their cabins with their cabin friends to fill up a suitcase with random items from their cabin.  They get points for every object they bring that is on the list!

Then it was time for Free Time!  The Canteen, Craft Room, Trading Post, and Waterfront all opened up for campers!

DDD_0131

Particularly popular today were the fishing docks!  There were lots of campers out their using some leftover breakfast foods as bait.  Our fishing grandparents spent time measuring fish, helping campers take fish off of hooks, and generally keeping everyone safe on the fishing docks.

TAKE CAMP HOME:  What was your camper’s favorite Free Time activity this week?

Free Time went all too quickly, and then we headed in for our delicious dinner (BBQ chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, salad, and corn bread or apple pie for dessert)!

Then came the BIG event – the Ye Olde Renaissance Festival (formerly known as the Carnival).  Staff organize a bunch of fun carnival games and activities and give campers tickets for completing them!  Plus, there is always really delicious popcorn!

DDD_0036

It’s been a great day!  We still have a great chapel session to look forward to tonight before we all head to bed.  Monday was our first full day, and we can only guess at all the fun we are going to have tomorrow!  Until then…To Victory!

Adventurers #2 – Mini Everything!

The 2018 Summer Staff is so excited to welcome a second round of Adventurers to Camp Lebanon this summer!  This is the smallest camp of our summer season, but these little campers are full of energy.  The staff loves spending lots of quality time playing, singing, swimming, bible reading, and laughing with these kiddos!

We welcomed campers on the Steps of Faith and introduced them to the staff members they will be hanging out with this week.  Then it was time to learn about lowering the flag, pray for our meal, and head down for a yummy dinner of BBQ sloppy joes, chips, veggies, and rice krispy treats!

2018_Adventurers2_Originals94

2018_Adventurers2_Originals142

After dinner, it was time for our introductory chapel and rules!  Campers heard all about the best ways they can have fun at Camp this week.  We heard from the life guards about waterfront safety, and from Bobber Bill and the fishing grandparents about how fishing works!

Then it was time for some crazy Camp songs and a message from our speaker for the week, Sir William of Bobber!

Sir William taught us a cheer for the week:  “God is King, I am not!  Long live the King!”  He talked to campers about how sometimes we want to take the crown for ourselves, but that God is the only true King.  Tonight, he spoke out of the beginning of the Bible – Genesis 1 – and described how God created everything!

TAKE CAMP HOME:  Talk to your camper about God as the King of our lives.  Sometimes, we decide that we want to put the crown on our own heads – what does that look like?  Ask your camper about a time when they decided that they wanted to wear the crown, and talk about why only God is the King!

After chapel, campers got to eat some snacks from the Canteen and play for a little bit on the Hub.  Then the staff are going to put on some fun skits before sending the campers off to bed!  We had a great first day of Adventurers 2!  We can’t wait to spend more time with these great campers tomorrow!

Cabin Adventures!

There’s nothing quite so fun as spending time with your cabin group every day. We love it so much that we even schedule in special times for cabins to have adventures together!  Going to camp is all about adventure – for some it is their first week away from home, first time at camp, or first time making friends outside of school or church.  These are big adventures in themselves!  But at Camp Lebanon, we want to make sure that campers come away with experiences that will last a lifetime.  Adventures that they can tell their friends and family about long after school has started up again.

Counselors get to plan daily Cabin Adventures, and this gives them the opportunity to build cabin unity and teamwork in their group of campers.  Since counselors get to plan these adventures throughout the week, they can make them special to the particular group of campers that they have.  If they have an energetic group, they might pick a more active adventure, like extra swim time, or a hike out to Bass Point, or a kayaking trip.

Other counselors might want to connect with a quieter cabin, so they might pick a more laid back adventure, like a tea party in the dining hall or chalk drawing on the Hub.  Other fun adventures have included (but are not limited to) costume parties, Wiffleball games, turtle hunting, and some fun circle-up games in the Treehouse.  The last thing you will ever hear a camper say at Camp Lebanon is that they are bored!  Counselors use these adventure times to help campers to get to know one another, learn how to have fun in different ways, and be creative with their time and energy.

Follow us on InstagramTwitter, and Facebook for even more of the Funnest Fun!

The End of an Adventure

We are sad to see all the Adventurers leave this afternoon! After another great Polar Dip and delicious breakfast, the campers had one final cabin adventure together before the Closing Rally.

AAD_0063

We watched a fun video with highlights from the week, prizes were handed out, Bobber Bill gave us a summary of what he talked about all week, and we celebrated the end of the week once again with pies flying into the faces of our beloved staff (our victims today were Erin, Ben, and Jackson – they will smell like whipped cream for days!). We also celebrated the graduation of our first group of LITs (Leaders in Training) for the summer. They did a great job and they have learned a lot over the past three weeks.

AAD_0079

We are thankful for all of the kids that came to Camp this week, and we are hoping to see all of them again next year.

Thank you God for a really great adventure!

The Terrific Tuesday Adventure

Tuesday of Adventurers Week was full of just as much fun, laughter, and learning as the first day was. Once again, we started the day with the Polar Dip and a delicious breakfast of eggs, sausage, donuts, and Camp’s famous oatmeal.

After breakfast this morning, we played a new game! Cabins went around Camp searching for staff members dressed in ridiculous costumes. They captured the staff members and brought them back to the Steps of Faith to earn points for their cabin.

Then, we had morning chapel with Bobber Bill where we continued to talk about what it looks like to follow Jesus. After chapel, we had our morning cabin adventures! Today, a bunch of the girls had a costume dance party in the chapel. There was a lot of laughter!

AAC_0090 copy

After lunch (wonderful walking-tacos), we had Toes Up Time. Today, Lisa Abeler read a story to everyone as we relaxed on the floor of the chapel. After that, we had a fashion show! The campers dressed up their counselors as funny characters using only things that they had in their cabins. There were so many creative costumes!

After that, it was free time. Today, free time featured swimming, boating, crafts, and an intense game of dodgeball on our sand volleyball court.AAA_0136 copyAAA_0121 copyAAC_0023 copy

After a delicious dinner of pasta, meatballs, and snickerdoodle cookies, we had our last chapel with Bobber Bill. Tonight he talked about reaching “home plate” and what Heaven will look like. Then, Bill gave an alter call and several kids asked Jesus into their hearts for the first time. Praise God!

Now, the campers are enjoying some Canteen time and getting ready for the traditional end-of-the-week campfire at Bass Point. We aren’t ready for this week to end, but we’re excited for all of the laughter and learning that are yet to happen tonight and tomorrow morning.
