A Thankful Thursday

Our last full day of Camp for the week started with every junior higher’s favorite activity– sleeping in! We are thankful for the extra hour of sleep. After Polar Dip, we had a wonderful breakfast and more time alone with God. Then, in morning chapel, the girls talked about Standing Up for Your Sisters and the guys talked about Work. We have learned a lot in morning chapels this week and they have sparked some good discussions.

After lunch and mail call, we had clinics and seminars once more. The seminars that were taught this week also acted as a catalyst for good conversations and important questions. We are thankful for learning today!

We are also thankful for Free Time today. Today we swam, made crafts, rode the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, and played a round of Continental Clash (soccer played with a football)! Tonight for dinner, we had another Camp favorite: calzones! We are thankful for these delightful giant pizza pockets.

Tonight in chapel, Nate Temp is finishing his time with the campers by talking about practical ways to live out faith once they go home. We are thankful for Nate this week and the things he has taught us.

We are finishing our last full day with being thankful for good weather as we get ready for our campfire at Bass Point; we’re looking forward to a great night!

A Wonderful Wednesday

Our wonderful Wednesday morning here at Camp was fun and relaxing. It started once again with a refreshing Polar Dip to wake up. Then, after a tasty breakfast of waffles, we had more time to spend alone with God to pray and read our Bibles. Quiet time was once again followed by clinics and seminars, then morning chapel. Today, the girls talked about Sin, Shame, and Forgiveness, and the guys talked about Communication.

After lunch and mail call, it was Free Time once again! Today, Free Time featured paintball, swimming, crafts, and a game of dodgeball.

After a fun dinner of spaghetti and meatballs (and cheesecake!), we headed up to Camp’s North 40 field for our traditional volleyball tournament. There was fun competition, good sportsmanship, loud music to dance to, and a ton of games happening. Everyone had a lot of fun!

In evening chapel tonight, Nate Temp talked about what it looks like to play on “God’s team.” He talked about 2 Corinthians chapter 12 and humility. We are looking forward to a lot of good conversations about it in our cabins tonight.

Tomorrow morning is sleep-in-day before the last full day of this week. We are excited for the extra hour of sleep before another day of crazy fun!

A Terrific Tuesday

Tuesday at Camp was filled with JOY! This morning started with a dip in the refreshing lake to wake up, as always. Then after a delicious breakfast of eggs, ham, and Camp’s famous oatmeal, the campers had more time to spend alone with God to read the Bible and work on the memory verses for the week. As campers memorize verses and say them to their counselors, they get their names put in a drawing to throw a pie into a staff member’s face at the end of the week!

Time alone with God was followed by clinics and seminars, then morning chapel. Today, the girls talked about Loving Your Neighbor and the guys talked about Responsibility and Integrity. Morning chapel is always followed by time to discuss the chapel topic as a cabin, and today’s discussions were full of good questions and thoughtful ideas.

After lunch and a funny mail call skit, it was Free Time! Today, there was swimming, boating, slack-lining, the Craft-of-the-Day was tie-dye, and several kids rode the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline!

After dinner, we are having evening chapel once again with our speaker Nate Temp. Tonight he is talking about what the “uniform” looks like when we’re on God’s team.

After chapel, we are going to play game of Capture-the-Flag (with a twist)!!! We are thankful for the beautiful weather that we had today and we are all excited for more learning and laughter tomorrow.

A Marvelous Monday

The week of Junior High 2 is in full swing after our first full day. We have enjoyed incredible weather today as well as so many opportunities to make new friends and new memories. The day started with several campers jumping in the lake for the Polar Dip to wake up, and after a delicious breakfast of pancakes and some time spent alone with God, we were ready to get started with all of the most exciting parts of Junior High Camp.

This morning, campers had a choice of clinics and seminars they could attend (these are short classes about specific aspects of Christian faith or specific skills). After that, we had our first morning chapel for the week. Today, the girls talked about Shalom and the guys talked about Purity. Morning chapel was followed by a lot of good questions and fruitful discussions with our cabins.

After a tasty lunch of tacos and churros, it was Free Time! Today, free time featured swimming, boating, crafts, paintball, and a crazy game of SWAT! The weather was beautiful today, and Free Time is a great time to enjoy the best parts of Camp as well as to relax and get to know each other.

After dinner tonight we had evening chapel with our speaker Nate Temp. Tonight, Nate talked about the importance of intentionally choosing a team as well as what it looks like to be on God’s team. We are excited to hear more from Nate tomorrow!

Right now, the campers are enjoying some evening Canteen time before we play a group game called “The Crazy Medley.” It will definitely be crazy! Today was full of laughter and learning and getting to know each other, and we are thrilled to do it again tomorrow.

Welcome Junior High 2!

Junior High 2 is off to a great start! This group is loud, energetic, and very ready to have as much fun as they can fit into the week. After check-in this afternoon and many successful swimming tests, we had a picnic dinner together as cabins and were able to learn more about each other and share what excites us about this week (many campers are excited to ride the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline)!!!

We had our opening chapel this evening with our speaker Nate Temp. He introduced himself to the campers and staff with some fun facts about himself and his passions, and he gave us an outline of where he is going to go throughout the week with the remaining chapel times. We are anxious to hear more from Nate and we’re excited to hang out with him this week.

Right now, the campers are enjoying some Canteen time before the staff variety show. There is already a lot of excitement and energy this week as all of the staff have returned after Family Camp, and the campers are thrilled to join in with our excitement, so this will be a good show.

Tune in tomorrow for the first full day of Junior High 2!

Family Camp Finale

Family Camp for the summer of 2017 at Camp Lebanon came to a close this morning. This week was full of laughter, sunshine, and quality time with families, as well as new and old friends.

Families connected with each other in many different ways this week. We played games as families, we worshiped together in chapel, we had morning devotionals together, and we shared some incredible quality time in a place that it’s easy to connect with each other and with God. We also learned a lot this week through chapels with our speaker Patrick Abendroth, and we all memorized Isaiah 41:9-10.

Some highlights from this week were family soccer, boat races, riding the Screamin’ Eagle Zipline, dodgeball, the carpetball tournament, paintball, a home run derby, the Family Variety Show, wacky water olympics, krazy kickball, and our end-of-the-week campfire at Bass Point. We had a great time with all of these cherished Family Camp traditions, but perhaps the greatest highlight of the week was our Fourth of July celebrations.

While we did celebrate the Fourth of July with a crazy fireworks show on the beach, we spent the first half of the day celebrating in a unique way with Grandma Sandy Abeler swimming across Cedar Lake to raise money for kids to come to Camp. Sandy is 90 years old, and she has raised a lot of money with her traditional Fourth of July swim. We are thankful for Grandma Sandy bringing so many kids to Camp.AAB_0277

As families depart from Camp Lebanon today, their hearts are full, their cheeks are sun-kissed, and their minds and contemplating all of the important conversations that they had this week about life, God, and loving each other. Once again, Camp Lebanon is not only a meeting place with God; it is a meeting place with each other, and that has been incredibly impactful for the families that were here this week.

Family Camp Fun

We love Family Camp here at Camp Lebanon, and we were blessed to have a weekend full of spending time with some amazing families. It was our third annual Summer Fun Family Weekend, and we are thankful for all of the new and returning families that came to share the funnest fun with us and each other.

This rejuvenating weekend was full of laughter, learning, and reconnecting with family, and it was complete with a celebratory fireworks show.

Although we’re sad that our Summer Fun Family Weekend is over, we are rejoicing with the start of Family Camp Week! As the families that were here for the weekend made departed for home, another group of amazing families arrived for a week full of relaxation and reconnection.

Some highlights that we’re looking forward to this week include our Family Camp traditions; soccer, a variety show, boat races, and a carpetball tournament are all family favorites. We are also looking forward to some 4th of July festivities, including Grandma Sandy’s swim across the lake!

Camp Lebanon is a meeting place with God, but it is also a meeting place with families; we are looking forward to seeing families come together this week for quality time and quality fun.

The End of an Adventure

We are sad to see all the Adventurers leave this afternoon! After another great Polar Dip and delicious breakfast, the campers had one final cabin adventure together before the Closing Rally.

We watched a fun video with highlights from the week, prizes were handed out, Bobber Bill gave us a summary of what he talked about all week, and we celebrated the end of the week once again with pies flying into the faces of our beloved staff (our victims today were Erin, Ben, and Jackson – they will smell like whipped cream for days!). We also celebrated the graduation of our first group of LITs (Leaders in Training) for the summer. They did a great job and they have learned a lot over the past three weeks.

We are thankful for all of the kids that came to Camp this week, and we are hoping to see all of them again next year.

Thank you God for a really great adventure!

The Terrific Tuesday Adventure

Tuesday of Adventurers Week was full of just as much fun, laughter, and learning as the first day was. Once again, we started the day with the Polar Dip and a delicious breakfast of eggs, sausage, donuts, and Camp’s famous oatmeal.

After breakfast this morning, we played a new game! Cabins went around Camp searching for staff members dressed in ridiculous costumes. They captured the staff members and brought them back to the Steps of Faith to earn points for their cabin.

Then, we had morning chapel with Bobber Bill where we continued to talk about what it looks like to follow Jesus. After chapel, we had our morning cabin adventures! Today, a bunch of the girls had a costume dance party in the chapel. There was a lot of laughter!

After lunch (wonderful walking-tacos), we had Toes Up Time. Today, Lisa Abeler read a story to everyone as we relaxed on the floor of the chapel. After that, we had a fashion show! The campers dressed up their counselors as funny characters using only things that they had in their cabins. There were so many creative costumes!

After that, it was free time. Today, free time featured swimming, boating, crafts, and an intense game of dodgeball on our sand volleyball court.AAA_0136 copyAAA_0121 copyAAC_0023 copy

After a delicious dinner of pasta, meatballs, and snickerdoodle cookies, we had our last chapel with Bobber Bill. Tonight he talked about reaching “home plate” and what Heaven will look like. Then, Bill gave an alter call and several kids asked Jesus into their hearts for the first time. Praise God!

Now, the campers are enjoying some Canteen time and getting ready for the traditional end-of-the-week campfire at Bass Point. We aren’t ready for this week to end, but we’re excited for all of the laughter and learning that are yet to happen tonight and tomorrow morning.

The Monday Adventure

Adventurers Week is off to a great start today! Monday was filled with a ton of exciting activities and a lot of learning. The day started with a bunch of campers jumping in the chilly lake for the polar dip. Then we had a delicious breakfast of pancakes, sausage, and fruit (some kids even saved pieces of their sausage to use as fishing bait – the fish love to share our breakfast)!

AAB_0006 copy

After breakfast, we played a game where the campers went around Camp to find different activity stations and get stamps in their “passport.” There was a lot of running and laughter. After that, we had morning chapel with Bobber Bill; he talked about Luke chapter 5 and Mark 1:15.

Following lunch and a relaxing Toes-Up Time, it was time for the campers’ favorite game! The Camp staff and counselors all hid around Camp, and the kids were sent out to find them. If a camper found a staff member, they got to push them in the lake!

Then, it was time for free time. Free time today featured fishing, swimming, boating, crafts, and a game of wiffleball on Camp’s new Legends’ Field.

Tonight after dinner and an evening cabin adventure, we had our carnival on the ball field! There were games, cotton candy, popcorn, face-paint, a dunk tank, and a dance party. Kids collected tickets to win cabin points, and everyone had a blast! We were all sad when it was over.

Now, the campers are in evening chapel hearing from Bobber Bill once more before bedtime. We are excited to keep learning more from Bill tomorrow  as he talks about what it looks like to be a part of God’s team.

Tune in tomorrow for more of the Adventurers’ adventure at Camp!
